The Boat!

The boat is actually a cata-raft that was custom made by Down River Equipment Company in Colorado.Using one of their pre exisiting fishing frames with the extensive help of John Hayes it has been modified to be a "trick" fishing boat.

This is a side view.Shown is the casting platform,my wife in the rowing chair, and the rear seat. ( folded up)

The pontoons are 16' long. The frame which sits between them is 10' long X 5.5"in diameter. It has seats for 6. Three in the front, 1 in the middle and two in the back Tho it would be tough if everyone was fishing at the same time!. It s designed to be a three man fishing boat but due to the placement of anchor lines and motors can be run by one person. This type of boat is primarily designed for class 5 white water. It weighs about 170 ppounds without motors. It turns on a dime and is easy to row.

The boat can be powered by 10' oars or a 20 horse jet motor and a soon to be added foot controlled trolling motor. It has three anchor lines all cam operated from different parts of the boat. A cooler/dry box sits under the rowng chair anbd runs the width of the boat. John estimates this boat will run with the Jet motor in about 4" of water! Perfect for the drought stricken rivers of the Northeast.

Pictured above is the boat on John s trailer. I m searching for one of my own now as John took the trailer with him when he went home on Wed.The boat needs some more trial work as we had some cavitation problems with the Jet motor on it s maiden voyage. However , after consulting with Dave Demery of DIB, a solution has been found and is being remedied. Now if i can just find a trailer......
