Last week I displayed 5 unfinished differently shaped billiards. These were candidates for the first Christopher Morley club pipe. The pipes were sent out for blasting , stained and sent to the club for selection. The club made a surprising choice, they took my favorite one and the the least traditional of the lot. I guess it s good I m not a gambler! They took pipe # 3 which has a cumberland ferrule and a stek bit. I need to do a little more stem work to even the taper but these were sent with the notification they weren t completely finished. They will be offered within the club, in smooth and a blast finish. I ve been to two of they re meetings and its a great group of guys. If you re ever in downtown Phila. on the third Wed of the month look them up!
The next pipe has an interesting story behind it. Its a Pristine, Gold Apple, one of my catalog shapes. This pipe was ordered by the wife of a pipesmoker expecting her second child. She wants to give her husband a pipe to commemorate the occaision. Due to circumstances beyond her control the baby is arriving earlier than expected and she needed the pipe right away. Well I got lucky on the fourth one I made and the pipe went out Next Day Air this afternoon for the baby s arrival tomorrow.
Just a little aside here. I hope these will soon be the last lousy scans I offer from my flat bed scanner. A digital camera is coming soon !
The next series of photos show what I ve been doing the last 5 days instead of making pipes . I attended the Newark Pipe show on Saturday. John Hayes and his wife came up on Sunday to help me put together a custom cata-raft fishing boat that he helped me order last fall. This was days of work !
If you re intersted in seeing pix of the boat and from the pipe show and my wife s horse follow this link.
