Today s work consists of an embarrasment that I always hope to avoid. Selling a pipe off the web, that s already been sold. Fortunately, it doesn t happen too often and this time there was a happy ending. A customer purchased LS 62 off the web yesterday. I went to find it and it wasn t there. I wrote him an aplogy and told him I d make one up right away and get it off to Curt to be blasted. Well I got lucky and hit a smooth which the customer was happy to have in its place. Also I got to use the new black & tan cabernet finish on it. Here s the original and it s replacement:
I finished another special order yesterday that I started awhile ago for a good customer in Columbia. It s a copy of a Cavicchi that he sent me a pix of. The Cav had a silver ferrule and as I don t do silver work; I had to substitue with an acyrlic one. The one thing I don t like about acyrlic ferrules is that they tend to be too long and look clunky. Also bent pipes with ferrules often won t pass a pipe cleaner even with the stem off. This was a big problem for this pipe as it s a very full bent. I solved the problem by attaching the ferrule directly to the stem. It s made so the stem can be removed from the ferrule and replaced in case it s broken . Here s the pipe:
