Today s work consists of two special orders that I think I did get right. The first is for ASP s MJF. He sent me a picture of a Churchwarden in a black or dress finish. He gave me some direction as to what he wanted to see in the pipe. Hopefully if the PO delivers , he ll have it before Christmas.:
Just when I thought I was all done with Christmas pipes for the season......a customer sent in an order last nite with a next day air delivery. He purchased a pipe the week beofer and ordered a special shape( The Modified Nelson) earlier in the week. Wanting to keep this guy happy I made him a Cabernet Christmas pipe:
Realizing it would cost no more to ship two pipes Next Day Air than one, I got up early this morning determined to make the Nelson pipe. First try was no good, hit a flaw and have to blast. On the second I didn t rush the block selection and let my hands wander over about 50 blocks before one had the height and width and felt "right". Not a bad guess. This pipe has my old Light finish which has been replaced by Cabernet or Bengal.
I ran all three pipes to the Post Office and they assured me their owners would have them before Christmas. Tired but happy I returned home to find a check for Walnut Christmas pipe and this note in the mail.
" Your xmas pipe is my favorite style of pipe.I am 85 years old-please ship pipe when you can." BG
I guess I can squeak out one more pipe before Christmas but this is positively the last!
