Today s work consists of three pipes. The first is a Black and Tan, size 4, available on the web catalog as:
BT 34
The second pipe is a two star Pristine Christmas pipe for my friend Bob Hotchkiss.
And last but not least Kendals Pipe:
A few weeks ago I got an e mail from Kendal with a pix of a Black & Tan pipe I made for my friend Dr. Bob. The pipe was a full BB size which is basically gigantic. He also liked a pipe my son Glenn had made a tall Dunhill 120 ish tanblast. He also liked a lot of other things and the challenge was to combine all these elements in one pipe! What I did was to take the origianl squat bulldog and extend the top giving it some of the heighth of the DH 120 and still keeping it a Bull Dog. The pipe came out very clean and I tried to talk him into a Pristine or Cabernet finish, but he was adamant in his desire for a B&T. Somewhere in our tens of e mail a silver ring was mentioned so I worked a military cap in also. The first two shots are of the pipe fines sanded.
These next shots are the process of making a Black & Tan:
initail rustification (Done by me, Dave does a much rougher carve)
First coat of stain
This is the tricky part, not getting black stain all over the lite stain !
The final pipe. Realizing that Kendla might need a pipe to go to the opera or other dressy highbrow occaissions; I made a simple stem to match his tux.
Knowing also that maybe when he attends affairs with his hip music crowd, I made him something that would stand out:
